The Payroll Manager will oversee the organization’s payroll and benefits team and supervise the organization’s payroll and benefits functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Working closely with the Finance and Human Resources teams, the role will carry out various month-end and reporting tasks for departments throughout the organization leading and mentoring the team members.

Our ideal candidate will have strong leadership and mentorship skills and have experience leading initiatives to improve and maintain existing processes, policies, models, systems, and reporting tools. They will also have advanced knowledge of provincial statutory payroll reporting requirements with regards to WCB, EHT, and other provincially legislated employment standards. This position will be located in Campbell River - British Columbia or Winnipeg - Manitoba.

Your contributions to the team include:

Process and maintain accurate payroll data, including: earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments, etc. for an organization with approximately 1,000 employees.
Provide timely, accurate, and meaningful reports to internal and external stakeholders
Regular reporting and remitting for source deductions, WCB, Employer Health Tax, etc.
Prepare and file annual T4 slips and related summaries
Administer the organization’s employee benefits program (i.e. extended health and RPP)
Manage the payroll and benefit team coordinating workload for the department
Ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation across 5 provinces and multiple industries
Balance payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and initiating journal entries.
Verify payroll information and/or documentation (e.g. time sheets, leave time, benefits, direct deposits, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
Compile data from a wide variety of sources (e.g. payroll software, time sheets, salary adjustments records, tax forms, etc.) for various reporting purposes
Respond to written and verbal inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
Identify areas of improvement within the payroll and benefit process and lead the implementation of new payroll processes and systems

What you need to be successful:

Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation
Substantial Ceridian Dayforce experience is preferred
Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge using formulas and pivot tables
Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Finance is an asset
Minimum of five years' working experience in a payroll capacity
Minimum of three years in a supervisory role
Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization
Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, and management
Advanced knowledge of the accounting cycle
Ability to learn accounting software and payroll programs quickly
Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, Registered Pension Plan programs, health benefits programs, sick pay, and so on.
