Garden Valley School Division is a dynamic school division located in the heartland of Manitoba’s beautiful Pembina Valley Region. The division has a student population of about 4,300 and we have 14 schools in the communities of Winkler, Plum Coulee, Schanzenfeld, Hochfeld, Blumenfeld, Reinland and Blumengart.

The division’s largest centre, the City of Winkler, has all the amenities of a larger city within a rural setting. The community is just over a one-hour drive to Winnipeg, and fifteen minutes north of the United States border (Winkler/Walhalla crossing).

The Position:
Under the supervision and direction of the Secretary-Treasurer, the Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Coordinator is responsible for the development and maintenance of the school division’s safety and health program. This position will direct divisional initiatives and support our schools and site-based committees in all aspects of the Safety & Health Program including hazard identification, safe work procedures, and developing and delivering safety training programs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct/Coordinate thorough audits and inspections, translating findings into detailed reports to ensure adherence to legislative requirements.
• Deliver presentations and conduct safety and health training sessions and orientations.
• Maintain and update safety documentation to meet current regulatory requirements.
• Serve as a go-to resource for safety-related inquiries and initiatives.
• Review and assess the applicability of WHS regulatory requirements as they relate to schools and the School Division.
• Conduct incident investigations and report on hazards and recommend corrective action.
• Provide proactive emergency planning assistance and incident response support.
• Collaborate effectively with consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies as requested.

Qualifications:
• Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional preferred.
• 1-2 years’ experience in an occupational, environmental, health or safety discipline preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of applicable workplace health and safety regulations with the ability to review and interpret legislations.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• A strong leader that is committed to mentoring staff and building strong relationships.
