The City of Winkler is now accepting applications for a full-time municipal Engineer in Training in the Planning and Engineering Department.

• This position will report to the Director of Planning & Engineering

• Carry out preliminary and detailed field surveys, and infrastructure investigations for design, and budgeting purposes
• Assist in the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs and drawings the full range of civil/municipal infrastructure include water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, pump stations, stormwater management, roadway systems, water treatment and wastewater treatment
• Support the day-to-day activities of projects from inception through engineering, construction and contract administration, including preparation of tenders, budgets and estimates required for planning and construction
o Perform field inspections of construction projects, prepare estimates of progress for contractor payments, make inspection for construction completion and final acceptance certificates
• Assist in the maintenance of a logical GIS filing system of plans, documents and reports
• Review and approve of City permit applications
• Prepare and update Asset Management Plans for critical infrastructure (water, sewer, roads, drainage, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with Workers Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations, safe work practices and City of Winkler policies and procedures
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Planning & Engineering

• Graduate of a degree from an accredited Canadian Institution in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• Registered as a Member-in-Training in Manitoba (a member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists of Manitoba)
• Must obtain engineer certification within 5 years of employment hire date; having fulfilled all requirements identified by Engineers Geoscientists of Manitoba
• Municipal/Civil engineering work experience considered an asset
• Must possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba driver's license
• Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Training in Asset Management would be considered an asset

• Working environment is a combination of office and construction site conditions
• Must be able to navigate construction site conditions with various grade changes, and uneven surfaces and under adverse outdoor conditions
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
