CULTURAL COORDINATOR
Contract Position to March 31, 2022 with Possible Extension
Location – Kenora
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cultural Coordinator is a full-time permanent program support position. The Cultural Coordinator acts as a primary resource to Management and staff to develop and enhance the bi-cultural service practice of the Agency. The Cultural Coordinator provides similar resources to collaborating social service agencies in order to facilitate consistent, culturally relevant service delivery. The Cultural Coordinator ensures the hosting and resourcing by AAFS of regularly scheduled community cultural events to facilitate preservation and promotion of traditional practices within member First Nations, thereby enhancing positive and strong cultural identity.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recognizing and adhering to AAFS’s Mission to protect Anishinaabe Abinoojii (Anishinaabe children) and to support the healing, wellbeing and strengthening of families through Abinoojii Inakonigewin, to achieve the preservation of families and considered part of the AAFS Management Team, the major duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Coordinator include: program and service delivery and program delivery, documentation and reporting and participates in the overall organizational strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
 BA, BSW preferred with a minimum of two years experience in field however, a combination of related education, experience and skills may be considered
 Knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service development and delivery; the communities and family structure, as well as local First Nation customs and traditions;
 Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Regulations;
 Knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services including the service delivery model, policies, procedures and guidelines;
 Knowledge of the structure and operations of Grand Council Treaty #3 and the First Nations in the Kenora area including tribal and external services and service agencies in the area;
 Knowledge and understanding of, and personal commitment to the Anishinabe way of life;
 Ability to influence and facilitate community and group decision-making processes thorough knowledge, ideas, and persuasion;
 Ability to prepare statistical reports regarding cultural service activity and planning;
 Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with clients, subordinates, colleagues, other relevant organizations and management;
 Understanding of local customs and traditions and have a community minded approach;
 Strong commitment to helping Anishinabe children, their families and First Nation communities by providing services in ways that respect Anishinabe cultural and spiritual practices;
 Excellent planning, organization, interpersonal and liaison skills;
 Excellent time management with the ability to plan accordingly to flocculate project timelines and goals;
 Must possess a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License and the willingness to travel upon request
 Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normally performed in a typical interior office environment generally working at a set schedule of standard business hours, located in the offices of AAFS. The position will require sitting for long periods of time at a desk, perhaps sharing a workspace with other colleagues. The incumbent will be required to work in an atmosphere adhering to strict deadlines and at times consisting of repetitive duties that may involve a computer, website, telephone and faxing requirements. Periodic travel is also required.

Salary Range: $61,323 – 75,208 per annum
