Property Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Property Maintenance Technician is responsible for caretaking of all the buildings that come under AAFS & advise on different lease agreements related to properties and assets that come under AAFS.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful completion of an apprenticeship with minimum 3 Years of experience in community-based models, however, a combination of related education, experience and skills may be considered;
• Knowledge of the structure and operations of AAFS and the First Nations of Northern Treaty #3 including tribal and external services agencies;
• Knowledge of HVAC, pluming and electricals systems;
• Ability to read technical manuals and drawings;
• Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with First Nations communities, community services provider and tribal agencies;
• Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with clients, co-workers, and senior Management, management and staff from devolved agencies, other child welfare agencies, government officials, local service provides and other relevant organizations;
• Ability to participate as a team member in AAFS inter-agency committees as may be requested by Director of Finance, and Administration;
• Ability to monitor the physical condition of the facilities and grounds, and direct corrective action as required;
• Ability to participate as a team member of Health and safety Committee and ensure all annual health and safety inspections are scheduled and completed in a timely manner as well as all required fire drills;
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs;
• Excellent oral and written communications skills;
• Strong commitment to helping Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices;
• Commitment to providing services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement;
• Committed to ensure highest level of confidentiality at all times;
• Ability to flex daily work hours as determined by the Director of Finance and Administration;
• Knowledge of the communities, family structure, as well as the First Nation customs and traditions;
• Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License, be willing to travel and provide a Driver’s Abstract; and
• Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is preferred and a definite asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normally performed in a different location of AAFS in both an office atmosphere and outdoors. Typical interior environment noise level is quiet to moderate. The position will require the incumbent to sit for long period of time at a desk, walk, stand, bend, stoop, crouch and stretch. This position requires physical strength and stamina to lift/carry up to 80 pounds and endure extreme heat, cold and other conditions. Year round travel to First Nation communities, across districts and within cities is required including driving on highway and rough and winding “C” class roadways to semi-isolated First Nation Communities in various weather conditions.

Salary Range: $57,861 - $71,000 per annum

Benefits: AAFS offers Extended Health, Dental, AD&D and Group Life benefits to this contract position after one month of employment as well as voluntary participation in our Pension program.
