Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba – Chief Financial Officer

Our client, the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB), a mutual workplace injury and disability statutory corporation funded by employer premiums, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The WCB is governed by The Workers Compensation Act and Regulations. The WCB provides a wide range of valued services for injury prevention, compensation and return to health and work while maintaining the integrity of the system.

As a member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer ensures the functions within her/his portfolio effectively support the mandate, vision, and strategic directions of the WCB, with a specific focus on ensuring its financial stability. She/he provides strategic leadership of the finance, investments, actuarial and administrative functions. The Chief Financial Officer advises on a wide range of financial issues for the organization and actively participates in problem-solving and decision-making for a variety of strategic and operational issues.

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for ensuring the long-term financial stability of the WCB and requires strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a high-performance finance and administration team. The organization, including the Board of Directors, will rely on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the individual in the role. Candidates must meet the following education and experience requirements and be able to demonstrate several leadership and technical competencies.

A proven strategic change leader, the ideal candidate for this position will bring an advanced degree in business, finance, public administration, or a related discipline, and hold a CPA designation in good standing. This will be complemented with a minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in a large, complex, multi-service environment. A strong understanding of financial reporting standards, strategic planning, and data analysis and forecasting is necessary.

Demonstrated successful experience leading transformation, innovation, and efficiency initiatives in a unionized environment is desirable. Knowledge of insurance models and health practices, investment portfolio management, pension accounting and experience working in a public sector environment and supporting boards of directors will be differentiating factors.
