Livestock Medications Customer Service

Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the Medications Representative is responsible for managing the dispensation of livestock medications for the company. The position involves ordering, stocking and preparing medications and managing customer prescriptions. This position requires excellent attention to detail and a customer service orientation.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for prompt, friendly, professional service for in-store medication customers as a priority, working efficiently and minimizing wait times;

  2. Forecast levels of demand for medications by analyzing past product activity and keeping abreast of market demand;

  3. Order product as necessary to maintain appropriate stocking levels;

  4. Maintain positive vendor relationships by communicating with vendor as to product availability, quality, orders, pricing, etc.

  5. Receive products into inventory using the appropriate inventory tracking systems, label product as necessary, place in stock locations and maintain proper storage conditions including shelving, coolers, locked as necessary;

  6. Pick and prepare orders for customer pickup and/or intercompany transfer as per veterinarian authorized prescriptions;

  7. Prescription management including but not limited to tracking external prescriptions by date and volume, creating prescriptions for internal veterinarians as required, working with external vets and clinics to update prescriptions as needed to avoid customer disruptions;

  8. Keeping veterinarians updated on billing orders, customer requests, prescription requirements and specific customer opportunities;

  9. Dispose of expired and/or damaged product following appropriate disposal protocols;

  10. Process medication returns from customers as necessary;

  11. Manage all prescriptions by ensuring validity and accuracy of prescription with vet as necessary, monitoring expiration dates and refills remaining and communicating details as such to customer;

  12. Maintain an accurate physical inventory by performing regular inventory counts;

  13. Following established inventory control practices for inter-company and inter-department inventory transfers;

  14. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Minimum grade 12 education; post-secondary education in the field of medication is an asset;

  • 2 years’ experience in a warehouse setting, picking and preparing orders for shipment and following inventory control protocols;

  • Excellent attention to detail;

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word and Excel;

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision;

  • Excellent internal/external customer orientation and good teamwork skills;

  • Good organizational and time management skills;

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Agriculture and livestock knowledge is an asset

Physical and Environmental Requirements of Job:

  • This position allows freedom of movement with periodic sitting, walking and standing. Lifting above 50 lbs is not required.
