Curatorial Intern

The Estevan Art Gallery & Museum (EAGM) is looking for an energetic individual to assist in creating advances in the dissemination of curatorial theory and further knowledge of contemporary and historic Indigenous life in southeast Saskatchewan. This will include an introduction to the day-to-day responsibilities of a Curator, including the organisation of exhibitions from research, writing, selection of works, arranging loans, supervising catalogue production, and designing and supervising installation of exhibitions to preparing publicity and curatorial packages. The Curatorial Intern will also play a key role in the acquisition, de-accession, storage, and exhibitions of works of art and collections, and will work closely with the Curator in all aspects of the position's duties and responsibilities. The successful candidate will primarily work along-side the Curator to redevelop and design the displays on the second floor of the North West Mounted Police Museum, this will include research, exhibition writing exhibition development, installation, etc.

The position will begin on October 2nd, 2017, and will end on March 31st, 2018. The work week will run from Monday to Friday. Specific hours will be negotiated, but will continually be a 35 hour work week.

Wage: $15.00/hr (including vacation pay).

The successful candidate will have educational and practical experience in Canadian History, Indigenous History/Studies, Cultural Studies, or Museum, Gallery, or Curatorial Studies or related field(s). Previous knowledge or experience with museums/galleries, educational programming, and design will be considered an asset.

The successful applicant will be organised, have the ability to work with diverse audiences, have strong multi-tasking skills, be able to do physical labour, work independently or as part of a team, and have excellent communication skills (both oral and written communication). Knowledge of Windows and MAC operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and photo editing software, and a valid driver’s license is required.

To be eligible for this position applicant must be a recent graduate of a post-secondary institution within the last 24 months and be under the age of 30.
