Froese Family Farms is seeking one to two motivated, contract-term farm & field assistants. Our farm is been growing grain and oilseed crops south of Roland, MB since 1990. We are committed to sustainable land management, 4R nutrient practices, conservation or minimal tillage, and integrated pest management.

We are a diverse family farm operation that takes pride in doing our work well. We offer a balanced workweek, in-season Monday to Saturday, with Sundays always off, as well as the opportunity for vacation time during much of July. Seeding (late April to June) and harvest (August to October) are our busy seasons. We have a relaxed, comfortable work environment, using a modern, well-maintained fleet of equipment on a landbase within a 20 minute drive of Winkler, and 1 hour from Winnipeg, MB.

Job Description
Duties will include all aspects of grain farming from seeding through to harvest. Work would start approximately April 3 (negotiable) and end around Oct. 31. Our equipment is primarily newer model Case IH combines and tractors, with a mix of other brands and guidance systems.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Weekly operations planning
• Farm machinery calibration, operation, and preventative maintenance and repairs
• Crop scouting
• Responsibility for accurate seed, fertilizer, and crop protection product loading and mixing
• Seeding and fertilizer application
• Harvest machine operation and trucking
• Grain transportation, conditioning, and testing
• Yard maintenance and logistics
• Soil sampling

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Valid class 5 drivers license
• Strong organizational skills and general cleanliness
• Precise attention to detail and pride in high-quality work
• Self-starting mentality and ability to work independently
• Ability to work as a team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude
• Possess strong communication skills

The successful candidate may also have:
• Familiarity with Trimble, John Deere, and Outback guidance systems
• Understanding of IPM practices and safe chemical handling
• Good relationships with previous employers and colleagues
• Ability to take direction, and ask meaningful questions
• Flexible mindset when tackling projects with multiple objectives, and shift priorities when asked to do so
• Have an Agriculture Diploma or Degree, or several years of direct agricultural experience.
• Possess mechanical aptitude and interest.

This is an hourly position based on 5 days per week with the exception of the two busy seasons, defined approximately by April 20th to June 10th, and August 15th to October 31st. Spring planting and fall harvest require additional evening and Saturday hours.

Previous agricultural experience is a definite asset. The successful applicant may also be asked to work in a greenhouse setting, planting and watering bedding plants for a short period in April/May if desired. Part-time supervisory roles may be applicable to the right candidate. Salary is dependent upon experience and education, starting at $20/hour. This is a term contract position, with the option of renewal or permanent full-time work following the 2023 season.

Please apply by sending your resume to dane.froese@gmail.com by February 3rd, 2023. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
