Civil Engineering Technologist

The Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is accepting applications for the position of Civil Engineering Technologist.

The successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications:
• Civil Engineering Technology Diploma.
• Experience in drawing preparation, including computer assisted drafting software (MicroSurveyCAD or AutoCAD).
• Experience using GIS software (ArcGIS).
• Experience using survey equipment including GPS, total station, laser level and rod & level. Must have knowledge of survey practices.
• Experience using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts including the public.
• Excellent written communication skills with ability to maintain accurate records, prepare applicable correspondence and technical reports.
• Must have experience with construction.
• Ability to independently analyze incomplete or conflicting data.
• Ability to work as part of a team or independently and make decisions or recommend alternative solutions.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
• Willing to work in hazardous conditions that will include the following: water, construction equipment, roadway traffic noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, insects and vegetation.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
• Must be able to work extended hours.
• Must be physically able to work outside and willing to walk long distances over rough and/or wet terrain.

Hours: 40-50 hours/week Wage: $28.62 – $33.39/hour
