Lab Assistant (Instructional Aide)

Reporting to the Lead Instructor responsible for the Practical Nursing Program, the Lab Assistant is responsible for the setup of nursing course labs, clinical skills practice labs, simulations, skill competency testing sessions and other identified laboratory learning experiences as directed by Lead Instructor.

Length of Employment: 117 hours per two-year program; Starting as soon as possible

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up scheduled labs, practice labs, including equipment, materials and supplies, as directed by HAP instructor
- Prepare mixtures, solutions, cultures and specimens required for labs
- Perform general maintenance of all non-consumable supplies; recommend replacement and/or repairs as required
- Set up and assist instructors with implementation of simulations
- Assist the clinical instructor with group set up and divide tasks
- Assist the clinical instructor with the monitoring and documentation of student progress

EDUCATION
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is Licensed Practical Nurse diploma with current SALPN registration. Must be current in SALPN mandatory competencies. Practical Nursing competency of health assessments preferred.

EXPERIENCE
- The minimum amount of practical, related experience required to perform the duties of this position is 2 years' experience on the hospital unit to which the practicum/clinical placement will take place.
- Must have experience with full scope of practice.
- Preference given to long term care experience.
- Teaching/preceptor experience preferred but not required.
