The Recycling Technician provides customer service by counting containers for deposit refund, receiving non-legislated materials and may operate the point of sale system or till. Also prepares containers and non-legislated materials for shipping and loads product onto trailers for transport. Performs tasks as required for the upkeep of the depot.
Essential Job Functions
Receives customer containers and non-legislated materials and counts and records orders for deposit refunds.
Prepares containers and non-legislated materials for shipping, which may include sorting, crushing, packaging and palletizing materials by type and size and colour.
Loads and unloads trailers by hand or may use depot equipment (e.g. pallet jack, electric pallet jack, forklift, etc.).
Maintains the depot building and equipment, performing cleaning and maintenance duties as needed. May do small repairs.
Follows safety procedures and safe work practices in compliance with policy.
Deals with customer inquiries about accepted materials, deposit amounts and different containers.
Attends training and workshops as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic reading, writing and numeracy skills are required.
Related experience would be an asset.
Requires the ability to follow instructions and focus on own work.
Requires the ability to concentrate when counting and recording customer containers.
Requires the ability to focus on tasks to ensure they are performed in the right sequence
(e.g. ability to count, sort, record accurately, etc.).
Ability to deal with customer inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
