The Education Assistant will plan, organize and deliver the Museum’s educational programming and events for the summer of 2023. This position helps increase the public awareness of the Museum and what it represents, the history of the Southeast Saskatchewan.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director, the Education Assistant works primarily with the planning, organizing, and implementing Museum programs and school tours. They will also assist in the day-to-day operations, projects, and special events of the Museum, as needed. Duties can include but not limited to:
Facilitate Education programs. IE: Conduct tours, Lead Hands-on activities and Day Camps to Diverse Audiences of all ages.
Prepare and Research materials for Hands-On activities for educational programs, tours, and special events.
Design, organize, and deliver educational programs including day camps.
Update a Saskatchewan curriculum guide binder that includes programming and other activities,if time allows.
Prepare and distribute promotional materials for summer programs and events.
Represent the Museum at key functions and events; this may include speaking to the media and the public about the Museum and its programs.
General cleaning and maintenance of the artifacts, the Museum and its grounds.
Answering emails and phone calls, taking bookings and registrations for tours and programs, and serving as a public liaison.
Other general duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Students who are under the age of 30 and currently enrolled in Full-Time studies and are returning to those Full-Time studies in the Fall of 2023.
Post-secondary studies are desired in one or more of the following areas: Museum Studies, History, Art History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Library Studies, Marketing, Photography, Education, Visual Arts, and/or related fields.
Good written and verbal communication skills and great organizational skills.
Knowledge of Canadian and/or Saskatchewan history, an asset.
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and use of a digital camera
Ability to perform physical tasks.
Comfortable working with the public of all ages and backgrounds, as part of a team and able to work independently.
Prior experience working with children and/or in a museum, art gallery, library an asset.
Knowledge of, and training in, the Saskatchewan school system and curriculum, an asset.
Must have a valid Drivers’ License
The Souris Valley Museum is open 6 days a week. Due to these extended hours and special events, weekend and evening work will be required periodically.
Employment Dates: May 16, 2023 to August 22, 2023
Wage: $17.00/hr
