DESCRIPTION
Western School Division invites applications from qualified individuals to fill the position of Occupational Therapist. Functioning under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, this role will support school teams to enhance the learning environment for all students and will assist schools in meeting the individual educational needs of students. The successful candidate will provide a broad range of therapy services.
The successful candidate must have minimum qualifications that include but are not limited to:
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university, a Licensure from the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba, a permanent or provisional School Clinician Certification from Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning, or be able to obtain School Clinician Certification prior to the commencement of employment.
Additionally, the successful candidate will have previous experience with pediatric populations, preferably in a school setting; experience working with a broad spectrum of student needs; knowledge and understanding of individual education planning; knowledge of specialized student services software; understanding of Universal Design principles and a valid Manitoba driver's license.
Functioning within a team environment, the successful candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, as s/he will collaborate and consult with parents, educators, and community professionals to provide classroom teacher support in relation to the implementation of the required interventions within the classroom; model and co-teach recommended interventions and activities; and perform specific assessment for motor, adaptive, social-emotional and sensory needs.
A condition of employment with the Western School Division is a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check and an agreement by the applicant to disclose criminal record and/or Abuse Registry record information to the Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Persons must present this information prior to their first day of work.
