An exciting opportunity awaits
We currently have an opportunity for the Director, Finance to join our team. As the Director, Finance, you will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of organizational strategy, developing, and implementing corporate budgets and operational plans, delivering business results, leading a team. This position seeks to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in the areas of accounting and financial reporting functions, and IFRS.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Develop and utilize predictive financial analysis & scenario reporting, forecasting and flexible models to assist with decision making at the senior level of the organization.
• Assist with the development of the Annual Corporate Budget, including Board presentation materials.
• Lead the annual audit process in conjunction with 3rd party auditors; leveraging results to improve processes, policy and internal reporting as required.
• Investigate variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls, and general accounting; deploy measures to resolve variances.
• Monitor daily cash positions and invest excess funds as per Board policy and management strategy.
• Ensure appropriate US dollar matching position daily.
• Support the Liquidity Cost Allocation (LCA) process and provide timely, complete, and accurate analysis to provide greater transparency for allocation to platforms.
• Develop and communicate relevant financial metrics to demonstrate progress towards agreed upon goals and targets; take action or escalate issues as required.
• Prepare Board reporting including monthly statements and investing activity reports.
• Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting is completed accurately, in a timely manner, and consistent with legislated requirements.
• Ensure general ledger structure is aligned with business and reporting requirements.
• Ensure banking and lending systems are supported, updated and available for use, leveraging external 3rd party vendors and internal IT support as required.
• Improve expenditure control and identifying opportunities for cash savings, by performing financial analysis on all key expense categories through comparison of expenses and ratios to external benchmarks.
• Stay abreast of external trends, regulations and uncertainties that may have short/long term impact; identify market opportunities to grow SCU's core business and diversify revenues where appropriate; actively network to develop new and enhance existing relationships.
• Collection and maintain a financial dashboard and benchmark data aligned with our corporate philosophy.
• Champion continuous improvement throughout the organization in processes and technology with a focus on efficiency.
• Participate in the development of corporate vision and strategy and leverage the information to create and execute on operational plans.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to the Accounting & Systems team.
• Provide back up support and coverage for the Chief Financial Officer or peers as required.

Qualifications:
• Proven background in investment vehicles and predictive analytics.
• In-depth knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional Accounting Designation (ex. CPA) is required.
• Ability to adapt, prioritize, and plan to meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Effective team leadership and analytical skills including in-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance in the areas of accounting and finance.
• Experience in change management, communication, and implementing plans in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet applications.
• Knowledge of the credit union/financial services industry and operations.
