Job Description:

Maintain records of food costs, invoices, sales, and inventory
Analyze operating costs and other data
Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
Supervise activities of cooks and other kitchen workers
Develop new menus featuring culturally relevant and authentic Jamaican dishes alongside Chef
Instruct cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
Order food and kitchen supplies and receive and store orders
Arrange for equipment and building repairs
Estimate food requirements and food and labour costs
Ensure food meets quality standards
Recruit and hire staff
Leading/instructing individuals
Inspect kitchens and food service areas
Clean kitchen and work areas
Coordinate timing of dish completion with other cooks
Label and store or dispose of all unused items
Perform duties in accordance with Ontario Health and Safety Standards
Conduct Line Checks and Pre-shift meetings prior to service
Foster an atmosphere of respectful communication, cooperation and positivity among all team members

Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of high school is required

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a cook is required. In the event that the candidate does not have 5 years of experience then equivalent credentials, training OR cook’s trade certificate is required.

  • Experience and knowledge of Jamaican cuisine is a strong asset

  • Experience in high volume kitchen is a strong asset

Salary: $55,000 Annually, 44 Hours per week.

Important information: Flexibility in schedule is required. Position requires extended work hours, including evening, night, weekend, and holidays as needed. The candidate will work 6 to 10 hours a day within the rotational shifts that are available from 9:00 AM up to 1:00 AM.
