Childcare Centre Director

We are seeking a Director to lead our MCS team in providing exceptional care and education for young children. The Director will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and administration of the MCS Centre, nurturing a joyful, safe learning environment for children, inspiring and guiding the work of staff, and ensuring compliance with all regulations and legislated standards. Currently, our center has 20 spaces designated for toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children and we are in the process of expanding our learning space to include an additional 10 spaces.

Training & Experience. You have a certification in Early Childhood Education Level 1, are working toward completing one, or are interested and willing to enroll, with the goal of Level 3 completion. You have experience in an early learning/childcare setting, including experience supporting or directly leading staff, programs, and communications. You have a proven ability to provide and sustain a positive learning environment that supports the highest program quality and inclusion for children, staff, and families. You understand and can maintain the confidentiality and security of client-related and agency information.

As our new Director at Mossbank Childcare Services you will be responsible for ensuring and providing a safe and developmentally appropriate daycare program in collaboration with Centre staff, adhering to Early Childhood Education standards and all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. You will collaborate with other members of the team and oversee programming. In partnership with staff, you will provide nurturing care to all children at MCS.

Responsibilities:
Lead the Centre. Create and nurture a positive, safe, healthy, supportive environment for children, staff, and families. You will ensure program quality through conscientiously effective leadership and collaboration with the MCS staff and volunteer team. You will respond effectively to parent concerns and complaints, and assist with conflict resolution between the staff, children, parents and The MCS Board of Directors as required. You will also prepare and share a monthly newsletter with families at the beginning of each month.

Program Management. Oversee and assist with the development of custom-tailored, developmentally age-appropriate programs that guide day-to-day activities at the MCS Centre and ensure the individualized needs of each child in attendance are met. These programs will be founded on positive teaching methods, and encompass appropriate and conscientious behavior management techniques centered around patience, love and respect. You will assist staff to seek and research alternative behavioral management strategies when required, utilizing conscious connection and positive attention as the primary building sources.

Operational Involvement. Engage with positivity and excitement in the daily activities hosted at the Centre. You will demonstrate appropriate communication skills with children, and observe and record relevant information regarding progress and per the Centre’s practices. You will also share in the responsibility of maintaining program equipment to ensure it is in good condition and assist with toy/equipment disinfecting and general daily cleaning procedures as needed. You’ll share in the duties and responsibility of maintaining the play and nap areas to maintain an organized, clean and clutter free space. You will order supplies with board approval for equipment in all Centre areas and ensure the safe operation and timely repairs of equipment, furnishings, etc. You will also initiate and apply for grants that will benefit the daycare in a timely manner.

Strategic Communications. Develop effective strategies to engage families and community partners and communicate program expectations, activities and child progress with parents. You will take a diverse and flexible approach to working with families, creating communications, hosting events, providing feedback, and connecting to other resources as required. You will also maintain regular and open communication with board members, parents and staff as needed.

Employee Management. Provide robust, reflective, and responsive leadership. You will support continuous professional development opportunities for educators. You will inspire and provide support to ensure high performance from your staff. You will hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff within the mandate of the Saskatchewan Labour Board. You will coordinate staff scheduling and coverage as appropriate for service delivery. You are responsible for managing MCS employee payroll and for organizing and chairing routine staff meetings.

Operational Management. You will manage the operational budget and ensure the safety of the MCS Centre. You will contribute to policies and procedure development, updates, and staff adherence. You will communicate with MCS’s external partners and participate in professional network meetings, conferences, etc. You will monitor enrollment to ensure the site is at capacity and communicate with MCS’s Early Learning & Child Care Consultant regarding subsidies, waiting lists, and statistics. You will complete serious occurrence reports as required. You will coordinate with stakeholders and work with external professionals, including tradesmen and other organizations as required.

Ensure compliance. With the support of our Early Learning & Child Care Consultant of Early Years Branch, Child Care Operations from the Ministry of Education, you will stay up to date with, implement, and adhere to all regulations and legislated standards, and ensure the program is operating and complying with The Child Care Act guidelines and regulations at all times.

Other responsibilities:
Report to the Mossbank Childcare Services Inc. Board of Directors, including providing a monthly report and attending board meetings as required.
You will, and ensure employees also, participate in ongoing professional development and attend/maintain all mandatory training.
Promote and ensure a safe and healthy working environment and report any existing or potential hazards within the workplace.
Actively participate in the planning and preparation of nutritious snacks and lunches in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide.
Maintain current, accurate and confidential files on staff and children.
Responsible for staff scheduling, maintaining supplies and accurate record keeping.
Report instances of neglect and abuse as required as a Mandatory Reporter.

Qualifications:
Level 1 Early Childhood Education Certificate/willing to enroll and work towards Level 3, or working towards an equivalent (or ECE Director Exemption).
Safe Food Handling (or willing to complete prior to starting)
Current First Aid & CPR certificates (recognized in the Province of Saskatchewan)
Criminal record check
