Job Description & Duties

The duties of a tow truck operator consist of communicating with a dispatcher, driving to the scene of an accident or breakdown, connecting the vehicle to the tow truck and transporting it. The driver will be responsible for attaching the disabled vehicle to the tow truck. Depending on the type of tow truck, this may include using a chain, winch, steering locks, and other devices as well as affixing lights on the towed vehicle.

Drivers will interact with customers, speaking to them about their road issues, providing necessary assistance. As such, a tow truck operator will need to be able communicate well and will need to have a basic knowledge of cars and automotive parts. Many tow truck drivers will perform small repairs on the scene of a breakdown such as changing tires, reconnecting parts, or jumpstarting a vehicle. Some familiarity with automotive maintenance and repair may be required, but most of it can be learned on the job. The driver will also have to write up reports of services rendered and accept payments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Arrive at work on time daily, ready for duty

• Provide Towing and roadside assistance in a safe, professional and timely manner, free of accident, injury or damage

• Submit accurate invoices and appropriate payment on time for processing each week

• Maintain truck and equipment in a safe, clean state (cleaning the inside and outside of the company truck), operate it in a safe and professional manner

• Consistently ensure quality customer service through professionalism, timely response, skill and courtesy

• Study information provided by the Company to maintain and upgrade industry and job knowledge

• Clean up accident scene and remove debris from damaged vehicles off the roadway

• Perform lock outs for customers who have locked their keys in their car

• Inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water

• Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

• Possess correct and valid drivers license, 5 Class or above

• Live in geographical area which will allow timely response to calls from home after hours, as required

• Demonstrate positive customer service attitude- both to co-workers and customers

• Ability to sit in vehicle seat for extended periods, significant amount of driving, bending, lifting, listening to and responding to GPS, Tablet and phone communications

• Must submit to and pass background check as per Company policy and Company’s contractual requirements

• Must be able to workdays, evenings, weekends and on-call

• Driving record must meet the requirements of company insurance carrier and company fleet safety program

Job Types: Full-time
Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Drivers will be on call every second night and every second weekend.
