The Village of Mortlach is seeking a self-motivated individual with strong professional
judgement, strong critical thinking ability, mechanical ability and organizational skills.

The Village Public Works Manager, manages and executes the daily operations of the public
works department. The Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of services.
These services include;
• Transportation and Street Maintenance (snow removal, sanding, signs etc.)
• Water Collection and Distribution, Wastewater and Lagoon Operations.
• Facilities Maintenance and Equipment Operation and Maintenance.
• Village Grounds/Greenspace Maintenance and various other duties as assigned.
• Administering/managing various labour hired or contracted by the Village under Public Works

The Public Works Manager will carry out all duties for the operation of the Village of Mortlach Water and Sewer System in its entirety. To supervise all Village-owned property and responsible for the implementation and development of objectives and goals as set out by the Village CAO. The Public Works Manager reports directly to the Village CAO. The Mortlach Public Works Department consists of one employee, the Village Manager and possible seasonal employees. The successful applicant must be comfortable working alone. Seasonal workers are contracted to assist as necessary for snow removal and summer maintenance.

Qualifications: The successful applicant must
• Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent or higher
• Class 5 driver’s license
• Provide a current criminal record check
• Demonstrate proper use of PPE at all times.

Certification/Courses Requirements which must be obtained within 1 year
Have experience and Operator Certification with municipal systems;
• Class 1 Water Distribution,
• Class 1 Wastewater Treatment
• Wastewater Collection
• Willing to acquire certificates as may be required from time to time
• Safety courses (WHMIS safety training etc.)

• Ability to manage and prioritize their employee’s time
• Perform critical work with accuracy and to completion
• Ability to prioritize a demanding work environment
• Ability to respond to public requests in a timely manner
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Analytical problem-solving skills
• Organizational skills, ability to anticipate, prioritize, balance and execute tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with Council, Administration and co-workers and employees

Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 15-20 hours per week at a rate of $22-$25 per hour. Mandatory daily water testing duties can be shared with contracted assistance. Expect periodically being required to work outside of regular hours pending snow removal, emergency water/sewer responsibilities, etc., as necessary. The Public Works Manager, shall, in consultation with the Administrator, prepare an operating and capital budget for the operation of the department which shall be submitted to the Council for approval.
