The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Lead Community Justice Navigator position within our Métis Justice Institute located in Winnipeg, MB. The Lead Community Justice Navigator will be responsible for providing advocacy and community navigation for Red River Métis citizens who are justice involved. This position will aim to mitigate social isolation and stigma experienced by Red River Métis citizens, address criminogenic factors, and remove barriers to help-seeking.
Job Duties/Competencies:
• Conduct community outreach to offer support and advocacy for Métis citizens;
• Work closely with the Senior Director and Director of Justice, the Red River Métis Community Justice Worker and the Red River Métis Court Worker to implement and maintain policies and procedures;
• Lead the Community Justice Navigation team and provide guidance on policy implementation and client intake protocols;
• Identify social, medical, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet client’s needs;
• Assist in identifying potential problems, crisis and emergency situations and accurately develop strategies to deal with such situations;
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in criminal justice, Social Sciences, or related fields, or equivalent experience and training;
• Experience in the justice field is considered an asset;
• Experience in case planning and conducting needs assessments;
• Familiarity with justice issues affecting Indigenous peoples;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
