Title: Program Assistant
Job Type: Contract, Full-Time (35 hours/week); possibility to become a permanent position
Location: Winkler Arts and Culture Centre Inc

The Program Assistant for the Winkler Arts and Culture Centre is responsible for managing and coordinating the artistic and educational programs of the gallery. This role will work closely with the Executive Director and collaborate with artists, and community partners to develop and implement a diverse range of exhibitions, events, and educational initiatives. The Program Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring the gallery's success by creating engaging experiences that promote art appreciation and support the gallery's mission.

Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop the gallery's artistic and educational programming in alignment with the gallery's mission and strategic goals.
• Coordinate and oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of exhibitions, events, workshops, and educational programs.
• Curate and manage the exhibition schedule, including selecting artists, artworks, and themes that reflect the gallery's vision and appeal to a diverse audience.
• Foster relationships with artists, curators, and community partners to facilitate collaborations and special projects.
• Manage the logistics of exhibition installations, including artwork transportation, lighting, signage, and other display elements.
• Develop and oversee educational initiatives, including guided tours, lectures, workshops, and outreach programs to engage visitors and enhance their understanding and appreciation of the gallery's exhibitions.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with local art organizations, educational institutions, and community groups to expand the gallery's network and enhance collaborative opportunities.
• Monitor program budgets and ensure effective resource allocation to achieve program goals within budgetary constraints.
• Provide program reports which include but not limited to attendance numbers, expenses, and profit/loss.
• Evaluate program outcomes and collect visitor feedback to assess the impact and effectiveness of the gallery's programs, making adjustments and improvements as needed.
• Stay informed about current trends, developments, and best practices in the field of art curation, education, and gallery management.

Qualifications:
• As per the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, applicants must be between the ages of 15-30 years old.
• Be legally entitled to work according to provincial/federal legislation.
• Extended education in Art History, Fine Arts, Arts Administration, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Proven experience in scheduling and developing educational programs within an organization a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary art, art history, and art theory an asset.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with artists, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Flexibility to work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and occasional weekends.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Passion for art and a commitment to promoting art appreciation and accessibility.

The anticipated start for this position is late June/early July.
