Controller

WS Steel is a Tier 1 OEM fabricator with a compliment of ~200 employees. We manufacture both high volume components and large-scale products/ projects across a wide range of industries. We are currently seeking a Controller to join our team!

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will provide leadership for accounting, information technology, and administrative activities.

Key Objectives:
• Provide cost and profitability analysis for numerous, customized projects, impacting our ability to deliver quality products on time.
• Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines to ensure the integrity of our financial operations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the administrative and accounting teams, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies aligned with our mission.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership for accounting, finance, information technology, and administrative functions, ensuring alignment with company goals.
• Develop, direct, and implement best practices for accounting matters, driving efficiency and accuracy.
• Oversee the preparation of financial statements and records, ensuring compliance and transparency.
• Manage cash flow, inventory, and short-term investments to optimize financial performance.
• Maintain positive working relationships with financial lenders through open and timely communications, supporting our financial stability.
• Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements as well as monthly and quarterly reports, providing insights for strategic decision-making.
• Collaborate with IT teams on system selections and conversions to enhance operational efficiency.

Selection Criteria:
• Ten or more years of professional accounting experience, demonstrating a track record of success.
• Strong technical skills in finance, accounting, management reporting, financial analysis, and ASPE.
• Experience with cost accounting, financial modeling, and scenario analysis, contributing to informed decision-making.
• Strong understanding of banking processes, ensuring financial compliance and risk management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and produce quality documents under tight timeframes, showcasing strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate others in all levels of administration, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
• Experience with foreign exchange is desirable.
• Experience in the manufacturing, agriculture, or automotive sector is an asset, showcasing industry knowledge and adaptability.
• Experience with manufacturing IT systems, enhancing our technological capabilities.
