ASL Interpreter/Visual Language Interpreter

Position: Term – ASL Interpreter

Location: Southwood School, Steinbach, MB
Hours: 6.0 hours per day, student contact days
Term: September 3, 2024 to June 26, 2025 with possibility of extension
Application Deadline: 4:30 p.m., August 15, 2024
Starting Rate of Pay: $25.82 per hour

The Hanover School Division requires a Certified ASL Interpreter/Visual Language Interpreter, commencing for the 2024-2025 school year. Candidates should be fluent in American Sign Language and have graduated from a recognized interpreting program. The position involves working with a student in a school setting. The position requires a willingness to work with an educational team of school psychologists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers, and principals.

Additional criteria include:

•Fluency in ASL, with requisite certificates and accreditation
•Excellent communication skills, literacy, and language skills: expressive, receptive, and written language skills
•Ability to take direction and adhere to instruction from supervisors
•Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and as part of a collaborative school team
•Demonstrates an attitude of respect and sensitivity towards students from diverse cultures, abilities, socioeconomic level, and education
•Flexibility in adapting presentation of materials to suit varied needs of students
•Previous experience in an educational setting is an asset
•Must have valid driver’s license, Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Records Check
