Under the direction and supervision of the Off-Reserve Supervisor for Jordan’s Principle, the Land Based Worker will be responsible to assist and support the Land Based Coordinator in the development and management of land based activities and teachings for Off-Reserve Jordan’s Principle clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate, network, and cultivate partnerships to ensure a comprehensive referral network for community resources.
• Assist with planning, implementing and evaluating land-based activities
• Develop trusting relationships with youth
• Assist in identifying barriers that may prevent children from accessing land-based activities.
• Utilize a collaborative Circle of Care approach to deliver services that includes a balance of interconnectedness and Indigenous Wellness Framework: Physical, spiritual, mental and emotional behaviours.
• Assist and advocate with families for their children by assisting in navigating through the health system if needed to attain land based mental health wellness services.

QUALIFICATIONS: (including, but not limited to)
• Minimum Grade 12 completion with a Post-Secondary Education preferred or combination of related work experience and/or training
• Knowledge and experience in land-based activities, including hunting, fishing, medicine picking, camping and other outdoor activities
• Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach
• Fluency in Dakota and/or Ojibway language is an asset
• Ability to plan and implement recreational and social activities/outings with children
• Ability to work as a team member and take initiative
• Knowledge of the Jordan’s Principle initiative
• Proficient in use of Apple Products and Microsoft Office Applications
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Valid Manitoba Driver’s License
• Class 4 Driver’s License would be an asset
• Access to a reliable vehicle
• Travel extensively throughout region
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Child Abuse Registry, Valid CPR and First Aide Certification.
