Under the direction and supervision of the Wellness Coordinator/Team Lead, the Wellness Counsellor provides a range of Community Wellness, Clinical and client care & coordination to the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) member Communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Delivery of wellness program in the areas of crisis response support delivery.
• Manage a clinical caseload (documentation, assessment, counselling, and referrals).
• Facilitate Community Crisis planning, prevention and trauma training workshops for front-line professionals and paraprofessionals promoting recovery.
• Support community wellness programs in the areas of Wellness service delivery coordination, and the team development needs from its member communities
• Responsible for respectfully engaging with First Nations, community stakeholders and specialized service providers to facilitate Community Wellness Activities, Prevention Strategies and Trauma Training.
• Ability to provide; critical incident stress debriefing; individual client assessments, one-on-one counselling; mental health therapy; grief and loss support; post-suicide counselling; prevention training and capacity building with local community wellness teams (CISM).

QUALIFICATIONS: (including, but not limited to)
• Graduate degree within social services field, or an equivalent combination of education, like an Applied Counselling Certificate
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a counselling role
• Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Certificate; First Aid; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training would be an asset.
• Must be able to develop and deliver presentations on various Mental Health Topics.
• In-depth knowledge of population health and First Nations perspective on health and wellness system needs
• Familiarity with relevant aspects of the Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Act and Child & Family Services Act.
• Clinical knowledge and experience in the area of Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders and the related implications for clinical practice with clients with this diagnosis.
• Demonstrated understanding of different therapeutic approaches and counseling skills.
• Knowledge of best practice standards and patient safety in the application of clinical work.
• Proficient in use of Apple Products and Microsoft Office applications
• Must have strong verbal skills with the ability to explain and effectively summarize complex issues.
• Must have strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare and manage a client case load.
• Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills with good organizational skills, time management and the ability to prioritize community needs.
• Access to a reliable vehicle

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Valid Manitoba Driver’s License
• Current Criminal Records/Vulnerable Sector screening and Child Abuse & Adult Abuse Registry Checks
