Job Summary


The Kenora Sexual Assault Centre supports survivors. We listen, facilitate healing, and celebrate resiliency. Using an intersectional feminist approach, we work to transform systems which promote gender-based violence. This new Anti-Human Trafficking program will provide wrap-around support, advocacy, and outreach to those experiencing sexual exploitation, and those at-risk, in Kenora and the surrounding areas.

We are currently looking to recruit for two positions. Reporting directly to our Executive Director, the successful candidates should feel inspired by our work and have a genuine desire to support our mission, vision and values. They will be driven to be part of developing and rolling out a successful new program and will also have a warmth about them that helps foster a safe, supportive environment for survivors of gender-based violence.

Essential Requirements/Education/Experience common to both positions:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field
- Strong understanding of root causes of sexual violence from an
integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression perspective
- Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and traditions
 -Excellent organizational, time-management, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
- Experience and skills providing support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and advocacy with survivors of gender-based violence
- Strong understanding of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation
 -Ability to speak Ojibway is a definite asset
- High level of competency with computers and technology
- Provide outreach and intervention to those at-risk of being trafficked
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Coordinator/Counsellor (Full Time Position – 35 hours/week):
Skills listed above and additionally:
- Provide trauma-informed, intersectional care and stabilizing services and supports
- New program development and coordination
- Provide advocacy, accompaniments and referrals for clients in the program
- Familiarity with community services (within and outside the Kenora area) to support people who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation or people at-risk
- Demonstrated experience working with marginalized and at-risk communities
- Ability to support and advocate for survivors with mental health needs, addictions, safety concerns and precarious housing

Outreach/Public Educator/Counsellor (Part Time Position – 14 hours/week):
Skills listed above and additionally:
- Experience providing presentations/workshops and outreach to diverse populations

Both positions are contract for a period of twenty-six months, funded by the Provincial Anti-Human Trafficking Coordination Office, Ministry of Community and Social Services and will start on or about February 5th, 2018.

Salary based on experience.
