Melt Production Supervisor

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Ensure products are manufactured within assigned areas and throughout the plant, ensuring employee safety and achieving quality, customer delivery, expense and continuous improvement targets at all times.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
• Ensure a safe and productive work environment by educating and directing employees and ensuring compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
• Establish and enforce Company quality standards.
• Accomplish manufacturing targets for quality, customer service and expense by:
- Communicating job expectations;
- Planning, monitoring and appraising job results;
- Coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; and,
- Initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
- Maintain work flow by:
- Monitoring production processes;
- Observing control points and equipment;
- Monitoring people and resources;
- Implementing continuous improvement initiatives; and,
- Initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between work cells and departments.
- Execute production plans by:
- Communicating priorities;
- Monitoring progress; and,
- Resolving problems.
- Supervise across shifts assuming a 24-hour operation environment.
- Ensure operation of building and equipment by evaluating and monitoring facilities, equipment and processes, and communicating with employees and Maintenance department.
- Maintain positive relationships by following terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Conduct process and safety audits as assigned.
- Ensure employee performance by:
- Providing employees with informal feedback on a daily basis;
- Receiving regular feedback from employees and taking appropriate action; and,
- Resolving problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions and communicating directly with employees in a timely manner.
- Communicating above three points with the department managers.
- Conduct all activities and execute all duties with enthusiasm and a positive, results- focused attitude.
- Support company initiatives and policies enthusiastically.
- Other duties as assigned
Education Required:
- College diploma in engineering technology or similar is considered an asset, although not a requirement.
- Post-secondary education or training in Industrial Supervision such as the CME Leadership Development Program, lean manufacturing, or similar.

Experience Required:
- Experience supervising within a manufacturing environment an absolute requirement and preferably in a foundry operation.
- Hands-on experience within a foundry is strongly preferred.
- Experience or exposure to melt processes such as furnace, pouring and processing is ideal.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles is considered an asset.
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Working knowledge of fundamentals of casting processes is strongly preferred.
- High level of mechanical aptitude required.
- Developed leadership skills, including demonstrated team-building, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to achieve deadlines in a dynamic and challenging environment by effectively organizing, prioritizing and executing.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to handle conflict effectively.
- Confidence, with the proven ability to build credibility and strong partnerships at all levels.
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, other common applications as well as ERP and related systems.
