At the Boys & Girls Club of Cochrane & Area, Child Development Mentors play a most essential role in providing exceptional, high quality child care in our licensed and accredited program. For 25 years we have supported children, youth and families in Cochrane and area through Out of School Care (K-6), Summer Camps, Youth programs, Youth Outreach services, Play Days Family Day Home Agency and community partnerships. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
We are developing our team for the school year and have full and part time Child Development Mentor positions available. Our fun and recreational program supports over 100 children (K-6) every day in two locations. Over the summer months Child Development Mentors facilitate our active Summer Camps program. We pride ourselves in delivering a diverse program with caring and professional staff that are well trained in upholding licensing and accreditation standards. Ideal candidates will have an Alberta Child Development Worker or Child Development Supervisor certification under the Child Care Licensing Regulations.
•Child supervision, safety monitoring and interaction with children at all times
•Creating a positive and encouraging environment for children
•Program planning and preparation for daily activities
•Program delivery- stations, games, crafts and outings
•Preparation and serving of a snack with a focus on healthy choices and nutrition
•Upholding the Mission and Core Values of the Boys and Girls Club; Belonging, Respect, Encouragement, Working Together and Speaking Out
•Interest in and passion for the child care profession
•Experience with children in a child care setting, preferably in a licensed and accredited setting
•Demonstrated children’s or recreation program development & delivery experience
•Alberta Child Development certification *priority will be given to applicants with a Child Development Worker or Supervisor Certificate
• Understanding of a strengths based approach to childcare and how to engage children
•Strong relationship building and communication skills
•Willingness to obtain Standard First Aid
•The successful candidate must complete and provide a clean Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector and Alberta Intervention Record check.
