The Protective Services Branch is responsible for maintaining public peace through applicable legislative acts on and in government facilities.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Security Screening
Full Class 5 Driver’s Licence (F5) and must be willing to operate a government pool vehicle in performing duties
Ability to work a rotating shift encompassing a 24-hour/7-day schedule, which includes eight (8) hour shifts. At times, the Protective Services Officer may work alone
Must be physically capable of performing the duties associated with the position including lengthy foot patrols, climbing stairs and working in all weather conditions
First Aid/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Certification


Experience in security or law enforcement or relevant education
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively interact with a variety of stakeholders including department personnel, general public and law enforcement personnel
Strong verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy
Strong written communication skills with experience in writing incident reports, maintaining a daily log and personal notebook
Ability to use own initiative
Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to a respectful workplace
Experience dealing with confidential information and using discretion in handling sensitive material
Ability to work under pressure and to manage stress effectively

Completion of an accredited security training program
Knowledge of Security practices, principles and related legislation, policies, procedures
Experience with computer applications and software, specifically Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word)

Reporting to the Security Supervisor, the Protective Service Officer by virtue of authority gained through applicable Legislative Acts, preserves and maintains the public peace in/on government facilities. The Protective Services Officer works a rotating 24-hour/7-day shift schedule and provides security services for government buildings and associated grounds, aimed towards safety and security of government employees and the public, prevention of accidental damage, vandalism, illegal intrusion and/or other occurrences such as theft, unauthorized use of property, etc. The Protective Services Officer can be expected to work in association with local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and building maintenance staff.
