Under the overall general direction of the Works and Utilities Manager or designate; employees in this position are responsible for the operations to deliver safe potable drinking water as well as operations of all wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities for the City of Humboldt.

The wage rate for this position is $24.28/hr (Class 1 – 2019 rates) to $26.49/hr (Class 2 - 2019 rates). Rates are in accordance with the City’s agreement with CUPE Local No. 2359.

Knowledge and Abilities:
 Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment procedures, operations and general practices applied to the care and safe operation of facility equipment.
 Knowledge of methods, chemicals, materials and tools used in water and wastewater treatment.
 Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
 Good decision making abilities and organizational skills
 Good writing and record keeping skills
 Ability to make minor repairs to water and wastewater plant equipment
 Ability to record meter readings and make simple arithmetic calculations accurately
 Ability to work with hazardous chemicals (e.g. Chlorine, Ferric Sulphate)
 Ability to remain calm during emergency situations
 Ability to supervise and train subordinate staff and assume responsibility of a shift
 Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the public.
 Working knowledge of computer software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet and database applications)
 Physical ability to perform the assigned duties
 Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.

 Class 2 Certified Utility Operator qualifications (below). Applicants close to Class 2 certification may be considered.

 Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License
 Current driver’s abstract from Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) demonstrating a safe driving record
 Possession of a valid, recognized first aid certificate
 Confined space training
 Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training
Hours of Work
 Normal work schedule – Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
 40 hours per week as per Union Agreement
 Weekend work and on-call duties will be divided fairly with other Water and Wastewater Operators to ensure coverage.
A Criminal Record Check will be requested as a condition of employment. Living within 15km of Humboldt is considered an asset in order to respond effectively to emergency situations. Holding a class 3A driver’s license is also considered an asset for driving tandem trucks when needed.
