SKILLED LABOURER POSITION

Under the overall general direction of the Works and Utilities Manager or designate; the employee in this position will be responsible for carrying out general duties for the City of Humboldt in a safe and effective manner.

Skilled labourers shall be able to operate the City’s basic equipment and tools; participate in water and sewer excavations; road construction and repair activities, and all other general duties assigned.

The wage rate for this position is $23.01/hr (2019 rates). Rates are in accordance with the City’s agreement with CUPE Local No. 2359.

Knowledge and Abilities:
 Ability to operate basic equipment and knowledge of routine maintenance
procedures.
 Skills in basic carpentry, mechanical principles.
 Ability to work in enclosed spaces.
 Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
 Knowledge of proper handling techniques for chemicals used in utility
operations.
 Good decision making abilities.
 Ability to remain calm during emergency situations.
 Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the public.
 Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
 Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
 Grade 12 or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.).
 Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
 Current driver’s abstract from Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI)
demonstrating a safe driving record.
 Possession of a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
 Confined space training.
 Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training.

HOURS OF WORK
 Normal work schedule – Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
 40 hours per week as per Union Agreement.
 Weekend work and on-call duties subject to on call and overtime rates within the Collective Agreement may be required as needed.

A Criminal Record Check will be requested as a condition of employment. Living within 15km of Humboldt is considered an asset in order to respond effectively to emergency situations. Holding a class 3A driver’s license is also considered an asset for driving
tandem trucks when needed.
