Under the overall general direction of the Works and Utilities Manager or designate; the employee in this position will be responsible for carrying out general duties for the City of Humboldt in a safe and effective manner.
Skilled labourers shall be able to operate the City’s basic equipment and tools; participate in water and sewer excavations; road construction and repair activities, and all other general duties assigned.
The wage rate for this position is $23.01/hr (2019 rates). Rates are in accordance with the City’s agreement with CUPE Local No. 2359.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to operate basic equipment and knowledge of routine maintenance
Skills in basic carpentry, mechanical principles.
Ability to work in enclosed spaces.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of proper handling techniques for chemicals used in utility
Good decision making abilities.
Ability to remain calm during emergency situations.
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the public.
Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Grade 12 or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.).
Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Current driver’s abstract from Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI)
demonstrating a safe driving record.
Possession of a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
Confined space training.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training.
HOURS OF WORK
Normal work schedule – Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
40 hours per week as per Union Agreement.
Weekend work and on-call duties subject to on call and overtime rates within the Collective Agreement may be required as needed.
A Criminal Record Check will be requested as a condition of employment. Living within 15km of Humboldt is considered an asset in order to respond effectively to emergency situations. Holding a class 3A driver’s license is also considered an asset for driving
tandem trucks when needed.
