HSE Manager

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager is responsible for leading and directing safety and continuous safety improvements in our Company. The role will develop, implement, and execute innovative process improvements across all areas of the company; share and implement best practices in cooperation with the HSE department and the Senior Management. This role may be required to provide HSE support to site locations; some occasional travel will be required.

Position Qualifications:
• Holds an NCSO or CRSP designation
• Minimum 5-7 years’ prior experience in Health, Safety and Environmental Management, preferably manufacturing or industrial setting
• Strong working knowledge and demonstrated expertise of all pertinent regulations, including OHSA, WCB and Labor Standards
• Knowledge, competency and experience in HSE issues and developing manufacturing policies and procedures including; current practices, equipment, materials, supplies and technology used in the oil and gas and manufacturing industries
• Risk Assessment and Risk Management experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to analyze problems, prepare options for consideration, and implement solutions
• Strong computer knowledge and documentation skills – knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Good communication and conflict resolution skills; must be comfortable with developing and delivering presentations and training as well as communicating with individuals
• Strong staff management experience, and/or ability to lead through influence with peers and colleagues. Flexible, cooperative and team-oriented management style
• Self-motivated, and able to manage shifting priorities
• Commitment to corporate strategy and ethical standards
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System and Lean Manufacturing initiatives
• Plan and conduct regular General Safety Meetings; ensure follow up on issues raised at the Safety Committee Meetings; Tool Box Meetings, and General Safety Meetings through to resolution
• Ensure coordination of equipment safety audits, the establishment of safe work practices and procedures, hazard assessments and monitor compliance
• Develop accident prevention and safety procedures and programs
• Ensure facility has appropriate signage relating to hazard communication
• Investigate and document all accidents and incidents involving equipment use and recommend appropriate action when cause is determined
• Ensure safe handling and use of equipment; monitor safe work practices and procedures, enforcing discipline as required
• Prepare materials and perform Safety Orientations; maintain training records
• Lead and conduct regular workplace inspections; establish and monitor program for reporting and investigating accident and near misses
• Direct modified work program; work with Human Resources to review Worker’s Compensation, General Liability and Motor Vehicle claims to determine validity, investigate questionable claims and take necessary action to prevent any re-occurrence
• Reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations concerning new Safety equipment, methods and practices
• Develop, submit and report annual safety budget; maintain all safety documentation as it relates to MHSA, ISNetworld and other related safety organizations
• Represent and promote corporate goals
